There is a forest fire out by shearwater right now
13 helicopters scrambling to put it out
along with 1 plane
the smoke is yellowish orange
and sometimes black
fire trucks everywhere
and time for the story part:
So, it is a normal afternoon here in dartmouth, I came home from school and me and my buddy were going to build a 1:50 scale flying model of the wright flyer. At about 4:00 I call him up asking if anyone can take us to the hobby shop to get the balsa wood. He puts me on hold and sees if anyone can. The answer is no. So I tell him to meet me in the dead end in about 2 minutes. So now its about 4:04 and we are both in the dead end wondering what to do. there is a long silence until I suggest that we go into the woods and then out to the airfield. He approves and we start going in the path ignoring the "NO TRESPASSING" signs. We begin to get deeper into the woods when he sees a tadpole egg in a almost dried up puddle. He then carefully mauls it to death using a pair of tweezers he randomly pulls out of his pocket. We them slowly mosey on down the path until we reach a path we call, muddy lane, because it has many deep puddles, But the puddles are not there, they must have dried up in the scorching sun. We ignore it not perceiving anything except that we wont get our feet wet. We finally get to the opening at the top of the field and notice a huge bunch of smoke coming from the direction of where they put up a new water tower (right now I am pausing to listen to the SAR helicoper go by). There are 2 other people about the same age as me with bikes coming out behind us with shovels, they are here to build the ramps made from mud. I ignore them and decide to go down to the crossroads and check things out, So me and my buddy start to run all the way down to the runway, where the crossroads are. The left crossroad goes down to the lake, while the right cross road gives you a straight line of vision to the water tower. After we cross over the ditch and we come back up again, My friend sprangs his ankle, He now has to walk there while I run. After about 1 minute of running I am finally about halfway down the feild and decide to stop and wait for my buddy. As I sit there waiting A search and rescue (SAR) helicopter passes right over me with a huge bucket of water hanging from his belly. Thats when I find out that something is wrong. My friend catches up and thinks that he can run again. We start to run and then reach the crossroads, But we can't see the water tower (I call it a water tower but it actually filled with industrial oil) through the smoke. I go farther down the path until I reach The fence in front of the runway, now back by the cross roads my friend is taking a break because his ankle is killing him. He screams at me "TRUCK! JACK HIDE! A TRUCK!" now if you didn't know me and him often go back there and hide from the truck because he will kick u off the land. But the truck turns onto the road i'm on and stops right beside me. He asks me my name, I reply my full name, he asks where I live, I reply "I am sorry but that is....." then I notice a logo that says, nova scotia fire department, on the side of the door, "..... ----------" (sorry, I don't want u guys to know my exact address) Then he tells me that there is a huge fire on oil derek 10 and that it is spreading fast, He then tells me to get in the truck and that my friend should come in too, we both get in and he drives us up all the way to the ditch, he can't go through it but it is pretty close to the top of the feild. We then get out and start running up to the woods, somehow my buddy manages to run on his ankle. We stop where the other people are building the ramps and they ask "whats going on up there?" I reply "There is a huge fire and it is said that it is spreading fast""we should get out of here" They think an explosion is going to happen and they drop their shovels and their bikes and then run. So me and my friend decide that we should run too. Just as we enter the woods all these alarms go off and a C-130 for the air force passes over our heads. I pause and watch it land, magnificent, the first plane I have ever seen land at shearwater, anyway. Back the the moment, My buddy is way ahead of me now and I take one more glance back and the flames have gotten so high I can see them over the trees. After a long run through the woods I am home, many other people are trying to go in, we try and stop them but they just keep on going. Finally we are home and my friend goes to the doctor. I have got a bad feeling about that whole last moment when the flames burst up higher.....
